Two Walmart Inc. operations executives have left the company as newly arrived CEO John Furner builds out his team.
Tom Ward, chief operating officer at Sam’s Club, and Cedric Clark, chief of store operations at Walmart, are leaving the retail giant, according to internal communications the company shared by email.
The company hasn’t yet named their replacements.
Ward spent two decades at Walmart and Sam’s Club, where he worked to advance omnichannel shopping and fulfillment, according to a memo to employees. Clark held various operations roles at the retailer for about 20 years.
Walmart last year boosted its spending on brick-and-mortar expansion and relocations; in the U.S. its investment more than tripled compared to 2024. The prior year, its U.S. investment in new stores rose some 500%.
Furner, who took over from longtime CEO Doug McMillon earlier this year, is said to be focused on AI and its implications for Walmart’s operations.
